Blenheim Road I

Major refurbishment and extension to a Grade II listed semi-detached Victorian house in the St. John’s Wood Conservation Area.

Following decades of piecemeal additions and alterations, the proposed works to the 4-bedroom house recognise the need for substantial work to restore a coherent whole. The proposals aim to refurbish and rationalise the layout, circulation and materials to provide a contemporary single family home, whilst respecting the historical features and character of the house.  A new open-tread stair connects the main living areas to the lower ground, replacing the existing stair, which is unsafe and unacceptable for a family home.  At the rear, the proposals focus on providing views out, maximising daylight to the interiors, and reducing unnecessary level changes by extending the internal floor levels out to the back garden. A simple extension replaces a patent glazed 1980’s conservatory to form a transparent ‘base’ to part of the rear elevation.
