Belgravia House I
Rear extension and major refurbishment to join two apartments in a Grade II listed building in Belgravia.
The building forms part of one of the first major developments of the 19th century to be built in the Queen Anne Style. The proposals create a 4 level maisonette apartment. This requires integrating part of the communal stair within the new accommodation and creating a new stair connecting the top floor. The proposed scheme seeks to rationalise and improve the ad-hoc layout that arose from the earlier 1950’s conversion – to create a sensible, elegant and appropriate layout, while respecting the underlying special architectural and historic interest of the listed building. On the exterior the existing lift shaft is extended one floor and encompassed within a new rear extension on the 4th floor of the building.
